As part of its commitment to nurturing globally competitive graduates, Midlands State University, through the Faculty of Business Sciences’ Department of Accounting Sciences, in collaboration with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), hosted a career development seminar on 5 February 2026 at the University’s Graduate School of Business Leadership.

The seminar brought together Accounting students eager to gain a clearer understanding of the professional pathway towards becoming Chartered Certified Accountants.

Delivering welcome remarks, Lecturer under the Department of Accounting Sciences, Mr. M. Shumba, urged students to take full advantage of the strategic partnership between MSU and ACCA.

“Through the Memorandum of Understanding between Midlands State University and ACCA, our students can access discounted registration into the ACCA programme while they are still studying, effectively giving them a fast-track route to professional qualification,” he revealed.

Mr Shumba emphasised that professional qualifications are increasingly becoming essential in the competitive global job market.

“As a department and as a University, our goal is to produce graduates who are not only academically competent but also professionally prepared to contribute meaningfully to industry and national development,” he added.

The seminar also featured a comprehensive presentation by Ms. J. Gora, Zimbabwe’s Business Development Manager for ACCA, who outlined the steps students must take to become Chartered Certified Accountants.

“ACCA is a globally recognised professional qualification built on international accounting standards,” Ms Gora explained.

“It equips students with the knowledge, technical competence and professional ethics required to operate in today’s dynamic global financial environment,” she indicated.

The seminar also featured an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing students to engage directly with the ACCA representatives and seek clarity on professional requirements, examination pathways and career prospects.

The engagement reflected Midlands State University’s continued efforts to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice, ensuring that its graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills and industry exposure required to thrive in the global market.
