MSU Inducts New Lecturers with Focus on Ordinances and Professional Conduct

GWERU, ZIMBABWE – Midlands State University (MSU) held a New Lecturers’ Induction Workshop on 30 September 2025, in the Committee Room, integrating new academics into the institution’s operational framework and culture.

The workshop ensured a thorough grounding in essential University regulations and standards of professional conduct.

Opening the session, the Executive Director, Quality Assurance and Professional Development (QAPD), Professor A.S. Chiromo, stressed MSU’s forward-thinking approach, stating lecturers “must quickly learn the MSU culture of innovation and accept the mandate to come up with new, innovative ideas that benefit students and the institution.”

Subsequently, Professor Chiromo detailed Ordinances 4 and 5, stressing their significance in maintaining academic quality and defining lecturer responsibilities within MSU’s operational structure.

Moving from instruction, the focus shifted to individual accountability as the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Officer, Mr. D. Mapuranga addressed academics on Performance Contracting and Compliance, clarifying the metrics and expectations for formal evaluation and management.

Thereafter, sessions addressed professional conduct, with seasoned Lecturer in the Faculty of Education, Professor W. L. Chigidi guiding lecturers through the essential Dos and Don’ts, highlighting the professional ethos expected of MSU faculty and warning against common pitfalls.

This ethical emphasis was immediately reinforced by the Human Resources Principal Assistant Registrar, Mr. T. Nyamande, who presented the institutional Code of Conduct and Grievance Procedure, conditions of service and clarifying required behaviour standards before concluding by unpacking Ordinance 3.

This induction programme reflects MSU’s commitment to ensuring its academic staff are fully conversant with the ethical, operational, and performance mandates necessary for nurturing holistic students and contributing effectively to national development.
